This 150-acre park features five major shows and dozens of fascinating exhibits containing marine life from around the globe, including the popular Wild Arctic, Penguin Encounter, Shark Encounter, and Manatee Rescue. Visitors get the opportunity to pet dolphins, touch and feed bat rays, pick up starfish for closer inspection, view the largest waterfowl collection in the U.S., or take in a panorama of San Diego from SeaWorld's Skytower or Mission Bay Skyride.
SeaWorld features numerous attractions and adventures for guests of all ages. The Park's most recent attraction is Pirates 4-D, an interactive adventure with wild surprises, featuring everything from a 3-D movie to state-of-the-art-technology (the fourth dimension). Shipwreck Rapids is the park's first adventure ride, where castaways brave the waves on nine-passenger inner tubes in search of land. During the journey castaways will encounter rapids, waterfalls, sea turtles, a mysterious tunnel and more.
Fools With Tools is a new show featuring Clyde and Seamore, the California sea lions, who along with their human pal Ace, create all sorts of mischief along with a lot of laughs. The Shamu Adventure is one of the park's most revered attractions. World-famous killer whale Shamu performs in a 7-million-gallon stadium, displaying spectacular natural behaviors of killer whales, all the while keeping the audience both entertained and wet. Wild Arctic, one of the most popular attractions at SeaWorld San Diego, takes guests on a journey to the frozen North. Visitors board a simulated jet helicopter for a bumpy ride to the arctic, where they will find themselves face-to-face with polar bears, beluga whales, walruses, arctic foxes and seals. And yes, it gets cold in here, making for an even cooler adventure.
Dolphin Discovery showcases bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales in a splashy, energetic, high-flying show with some surprise comic moments. Guests seated in the first 10 rows of Dolphin Stadium will no doubt get doused with 55-degree seawater. Shark Encounter takes visitors underwater with sharks, rays and tropical fish. Sandtiger, bonnethead, blacktip and whitetip sharks are among the species living in this exciting attraction.
These are just some of the popular attractions offered at SeaWorld, as the list is far too long to cover in detail. Along with numerous special events offered at the park, there is also a dolphin interaction program (877-436-5746), dining with Shamu (800-275-4742), guided tours (619/ 225-3273), SeaWorld sleepovers (800-380-3202) and much more.
Admission: $40 for adults, $36 for seniors, $30 for children ages 3-11; free for children 2 and younger. Multi-day tickets and popular 12-Month Pass memberships for adults, children and seniors are available.
Hours: Sea World is open year-round with varying operating hours and days. However, the park rarely opens before 10am, and it is always best to get there as early as possible in order to avoid crowds. Call ahead for hours.
Parking: $7 for cars and $9 for RVs and campers.
Toll-free Shamu Information Line: How fast can a polar bear swim? How much food does Shamu eat each day? Students with questions about marine mammals, their habitats and adaptations may call SeaWorld's Shamu Information Line at 1-800-23-SHAMU. Hearing-impaired callers can reach the information line through a TDD machine at 1-800-TD-SHAMU. SeaWorld education experts answer this toll-free phone line seven days a week, 9am to 4pm (Pacific Time.)
